Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Keath T. Deskins, son of Linda S. and Gregory M. Deskins of Brunswick, recently received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal while serving as the aircraft handling supervisor assigned to Operations Department, U.S. Naval Support Activity in Souda Bay, Crete. Deskins was directly responsible for the safe movement of more than 2, 700 U.S. and NATO aircraft in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Global War on Terror. He supervised the maintenance of the E-28 aircraft emergency arresting gear and in doing so ensured the systems were 100 percent fully operational. Additionally, Deskins trained six personnel on 14 watchstations involving airfield operations and safety.

Army National Guard Pvt. Tristam W Coffin, son of Wesley and Alisa Coffin of Bailey Island, recently graduated from basic combat training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values and physical fitness. He received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises. Coffin is a senior at Pine Tree Academy.

Army National Guard Pfc. Tyler J. Beck, son of Rebecca Beck of Brunswick and grandson of Louise Leutorneu of Bowdoin, recently graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values and physical fitness. He received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises. Beck is a 2007 graduate of Brunswick High School.

Army National Guard Pvt. Norma J. Neilson, daughter of Debra Neilson of Brunswick, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values and physical fitness. She received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. Neilson is currently attending Brunswick High School.
