Army Pvt. Karla M. Baril, granddaughter of Ray and Sharron Bouchard of Brunswick, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, and physical fitness. She received instruction and practice with military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice, basic first aid and field training exercises.
Marine Corps Pvt. Adam Brown, son of Samantha M. Klimko of Lisbon and Kent O. Brown of Scarborough, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot on Parris Island, S.C. Brown and fellow recruits began their training at 5 a.m. by running three miles and performing calisthenics. In addition to the physical conditioning program, Brown received instruction in first aid, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training. Brown and other recruits also received instruction on the Marine Corps core values of honor, courage and commitment. |
