Grief support group starts this month

NEWCASTLE — Companions in- Grief invites those who have lost a loved one to join a group of others who have experienced loss and are trying to find ways to deal with their grief.

“The group, of 10 to 12 people will have the opportunity to learn something about grief and share their feelings and questions in a safe confidential environment,” according to a release from organizers.

The group will meet every other Sunday afternoon for six months, beginning in January 2012 at St. Patrick’s Church in Newcastle.

The meetings will include educational material from a recognized grief counselor, but the “primary focus will be on the thoughts and feelings of the members of the group,” the release states.

“ The spiritual beliefs of hope and healing of bereaved people are often very important in coping with grief,” the release continues. “The thoughts of group members of all faiths, no faith, or faith stressed or broken by the impact of their loss are welcome.”
