FREEPORT UTILITY WINS AWARD
THE FREEPORT SEWER DISTRICT earned an Energy Management Achievement Award from the New England Water Environment Association recently, recognizing its progress toward reducing the amount of energy used per unit of water treated at its waste-water treatment facility. Pictured are the plant’s general manager, Leland Arris, left, and district Superintendent Daniel Bicknell. The district worked with Maine Department of Environmental Protection and utilized the State Revolving Loan Fund to improve the facility’s treatment process and install a more efficient heating and cooling system by upgrading pumps and blowers used in the treatment process. It also improved insulation and air sealing of the facility. The work was also funded through a grant from the Efficiency Maine Trust. The district said savings from the improvements is in excess of $80,000- per year in energy use and more than $25,000 per year in reduced heating fuel use.
