Tolan breaks own mark in meet; tracksters in action


BATH — The Morse High School swim team hosted Edward Little in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference meet on Friday at the Bath Area Family YMCA.

A highlight of the meet was Shipbuilders swimmer Ann Tolan, who set a team mark in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.91. She broke her own mark.

Tolan also won the 100 backstroke as the Morse girls captured a 93-73 win.

Brittany Kaler won two individual swims, taking the 200 free and 100 butterfly. Leah Totman was first in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke, while Emma Warner won the 100 free.

The team of Zenaide McCarthy, Totman, Tolan and Warner won the 200 medley relay, while Totman, McCarthy, Abby Minott and Kaler teamed up to capture the 4 x 200 freestyle relay.

In the boys meet, Morse rolled to a 121-35 victory.

Tucker Banger and Max Gurney won twice, with Banger capturing the 200 free and 100 backstroke, while Gurney was first in the 50- and 100-freestyles.

Other Shipbuilder wins came from Camden Fitzgerald (200 IM), Patrick McKenna (500 free) and Cameron Marco (100 breast).

The foursome of Gurney, Marco, Ben Willertz and Fitzgerald won the 200 medley relay for Morse, while Banger, Gurney, Fitzgerald and Dominic Marco were first in the 4 x 200 freestyle. Morse finished things off in style,winningthe4x400 relay behind the efforts of Banger, Dominic Marco, Willertz and Cameron Marco.

Morse returns to action this upcoming Friday at Belfast. Meet time is slated for 5 p.m.

In a meet Friday at Bowdoin College, Brunswick swept Camden Hills, with the girls winning 122-56, and the boys capturing a 111-65 victory.

In the girls meet, Brunswick’s Emma Blair and Lynsie Russell won two individual events each. Blair swam to wins in the 200 free and 100 breaststroke, while Russell was tops in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke. Other winners for the Dragons were Lexi Stevenson (50 free), Dina Murphy (1-meter diving), Caitlin Tycz (100 free) and Hannah Escoe (500 free).

The Dragon girls won all three relays. The team of Quinn Alexander, Escoe, Anna Rider and Tycz were victorious in the 200 medley relay; Tycz, Amelia Hawley, Rider and Blair were tops in the 200 freestyle relay; and Ellie Peabody, Elina Woolever, Emily Cowan and Alex Morse won the 4 x 400.

In the boys meet, Nate Samson and Brian Hess continued to roll. Samson won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, while Hess was the first to touch in the 200 free and 100 breaststroke. Matt Yost (50 free), Chris Roderick (1-meter diving) and Andrew Samson (500 free) also won events.

In the relays, the Dragon foursome of Henry Raker, Nolan Deck, Yost and Ben Farrell won the 4 x 200 medley relay. Also, Farrell, Yost, Hess and Nate Samson teamed up to capture the 4 x 400 relay.

Brunswick returns to meet action on Friday at Cony High School in Augusta.

Indoor track

WATERVILLE — The Mt. Ararat indoor track team competed in a KVAC meet at Colby College on Saturday.

Lewiston won both meets, the girls compiling 106.50 points and the Blue Devil boys 170.50.

The Mt. Ararat boys and girls took third place. The Eagle girls had 92.50 points, while the boys finished with 67.

In the girls meet, Rebecca French won the one-mile run in 6:12.74, the lone win on the day for the Mt. Ararat girls.

The Eagles did have several runner-up finishes — Sara York in the 800 (2:35.02), Alana Weaver in the twomile (14:08.29), Haley Frizzle in the shot put (25-10.50) and Sara Napoleon in the high jump (4-08).

Also,thegirls4x200relay was second in 1:58.17, while the 4 x 800 squad took third (11:43.93). Maranda Burgess also claimed third in the shot put with a throw of 24- 04.50.

The Mt. Ararat boys received a first-place finish from the 4 x 800 relay team in 8:59.04.

Cameron Meier had a solid day for the Eagles, taking first in the one-mile run (4:44.55) and second in the 800 (2:09.76), a mere .02-hundredths of a second behind Lewiston’s Abdi Shariff-Hassan (2:09.74).

Eagan Eldridge was second in the two-mile (10:29.76),whilethe4x200 relay team was third in 1:44.59.

Mt. Ararat hosts a KVAC meet on Friday at Bowdoin College. Start time is 7 p.m.

At the University of Southern Maine in Gorham on Friday, Freeport competed in a Western Maine Conference meet.

The Falcon boys and girls finished fourth, with the boys garnering 71 points and the girls picking up 75 points. Falmouth won the girls competition, while York was tops in the boys meet.

Winners for Freeport were Mikaela Fleener in the Junior 200 (29.22), Maddie Squibb edging teammate Hannah Schnyder in the Junior 400 (1:03.52-1:04.43), Erik Brobst in the one-mile run (4:45.61) and Henry Jaques in the two mile (9:55.70).

Top Falcon finishers in the girls meet included Abbi King (second, Junior 400, 1:07.35),the4x200Senior relay (second, Jemayla Nelsonwood, Patricia Dupere, Tatum Erlandson, Fleenor, 1:59.56), and Dupere (second, high jump, 3-10).

For the Freeport boys, Nick Mitch was third in the Junior 55 (7.19) and Junior 200 (25.83), James Knighton captured second in the Junior 400 (59.32), Max Greenwood was third in the Senior 400 (55.38) and Joe Ashby third in the 800 (2:11.98).

Also,theSenior4x200boys relay of Knighton, Ashby, Neil Panosian and Ben Cushman finished third in 1:43.60.

The Falcons return to USM this upcoming Friday at 7:30 p.m.
