Georgiana R. Batten

Georgiana R. Batten, 93, of Brunswick, ME, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017.

Georgiana was born Dobbs Ferry, NY to Gerda and Myles Read on July 9, 1923. She married Richard W. Batten Jr. in November of 1943. Georgie, as she was known, graduated from New Jersey College for Women class of 44. Over her lifetime she resided in Ardsley NY, Wayland,MA, Lincoln Ma and Brunswick, Me.

She worked for several years at Anaconda Wire and Cable, Readers Digest and Geigy Chemical while living in New York . When living in Wayland she was a devoted nursery school teacher for 9 years.

Georgie loved life and had a passion for travel and outdoor sports. She was fortunate to travel by plane or ship to many countries around the world, such as New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, Galapago’s and Europe. She loved to play tennis, swim, xc ski, hike and canoe with her friends and family.

Her long time hobby was taking silver smith classes at Decordava Museum in Lincoln, Ma. where she became very accomplished in the art of jewelry making and hollow ware.

Georgie was an active participant in the alter guild at Church of the Holy Spirit in Wayland and also St Annes of the Fields in Lincoln,Mass

Georgiana Batten is preceded in death by her husband Richard W. Batten Jr, Gerda Read, Myles Read, Phillip Read and Laine Christman.

Georgiana is survived by her three children Richard W. Batten III, Priscilla B. Nation and Margo Almeida. Her five surviving grandchildren are Garrett Nation, Blair Nation, Robert Almeida, Elizabeth Donovan and Andrea Batten. She is also survived by twelve great grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be on Orrs Island, Maine this summer.
