John L. Davis Jr.

TOPSHAM — John L. Davis Jr., age 83, of River Road, died Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. He was born in Brunswick on November 23, 1934, the son of Josephine Davis and John L. Davis, Sr. He attended elementary school in Pejepscot and graduated from Brunswick High School in 1953.

On June 18, 1955, he married Jean Alice Genthner of Topsham. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years on November 11, 2006.

John worked at Central Maine Power as a first-class lineman before fulfilling his dream of establishing a successful excavating construction business in Topsham. John operated Davis Construction Company from 1957 until his retirement in 2013.

He enjoyed spending time with his family at “the lake” and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. He enjoyed road trips and seeing different parts of the country. As a young man, he drove across the country to California from Maine. He enjoyed watching Westerns and listening to country music. John was a “Jack of all trades” and his family and extended family depended on him.

John was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Masonic

Lodge having achieved Shriner status. He was a member of the Topsham Fair Association.

Surviving is a daughter Terry Davis Colby and her husband Scott of Belgrade. A daughter Susan Helton and her husband Gary of Ohio. A daughter Stephanie Rogers and her husband Craig of Orr’s Island. A daughter Jennifer Davis and her husband Dana Bontatibus of Topsham. A brother Richard Davis of Georgia. A sister Diane Cramer of Bowdoin. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, John Helton, Brett Rogers, Elizabeth Leonard, Mark Rogers, Katie Huff, Matthew Colby, Scott Rogers, Jonathan Colby, Jack Bontatibus and Emily Bontatibus and 8 greatgrandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Tuesday, December 5th at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, December 6th at the funeral home with the Rev. Ronald McLaughlin officiating. Interment will follow in Roger’s Cemetery in Topsham.
