CALM BEFORE THE STORM



THE SUN HOVERS OVER a frozen Maquoit Bay in Brunswick as seen recently. Temperatures were expected to climb into the mid- to upper-20s today and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service, but residents should beware. The NWS predicts that areas of coastal and Downeast Maine will be hit by a blizzard Thursday, starting after 1 p.m. and continuing into Thursday night, with the possibility of a foot or more of snow. Temperatures are predicted to plunge back to below zero by Friday night.
