Champagne leads Monks in win

STANDISH — Saint Joseph’s College (15-1, 8-0 GNAC) cruised past Anna Maria College (1-14, 0-6 GNAC), 81-40, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women’s basketball contest at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, the Monks extended their win streak to 14 games, the third-longest victory string in program history.

Junior guard Julia Champagne of Brunswick led all players with 18 points and was perfect from the field (7- of-7), 3-point distance (3-of- 3) and the free-throw line (1- of-1).

With the win, Saint Joseph’s improved to 9-0 in the history of the series with Anna Maria College. The Monks’ winning margin (41) was the largest posted by St. Joe’s in nine meetings with the Amcats.
