Bowdoin heading to Scranton next

The Bowdoin College women’s basketball team will head to Scranton, Pa., for the third round of the NCAA Division III Tournament this Friday.

The Polar Bears (26-2) will battle Scranton (28-1) at 7 p.m. on Friday evening.

The other third round contest in the regional will feature Tufts (25-4) and Messiah (27-2) at 5 p.m. on Friday.

The regional final on Saturday is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Scranton will provide live stats and a webcast of all games from the regional.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for students and children (ages 2 and up) and seniors over the age of 61. Children under the age of two will be admitted at no charge. Tickets will only be sold at the door on both Friday and Saturday as there will be no advanced ticket sales.

Bowdoin swimming

The Polar Bears will send eight athletes to the 2018 NCAA Division III Championship scheduled for March 21-24 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana, on the campus of IUPUI.

Women qualifiers from Bowdoin are Amanda Banasiak (200 freestyle relay, 400 medley relay), Sterling Dixon (200 IM, 400 IM, 200 butterfly), Mary Laurita (200 freestyle relay, 400 medley relay), Marshall Lowery (200 backstroke, 400 medley relay, 200 IM, 100 backstroke), Linnea Patterson (200 freestyle relay), Mariah Rawding (200 freestyle relay, 400 medley relay), Dixon will also race the 200 butterfly. The women’s team will also swim a 200 medley relay, and 400 and 800 freestyle relays.

Karl Sarier (100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 50 freestyle)) and Mitchell Ryan (diving) qualified for the Bowdoin men.

Indoor track

Bowdoin sends 10 athletes to the 2018 NCAA Division III Championship scheduled, for March Friday and Saturday at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.

The women’s distance medley relay team of Caroline Shipley, Sara Ory, Claire Traum and Sarah Kelley head to Alabama, while on the men’s side Liam Nicoll (800 meter run), Brian Greenberg (triple jump) and the distance medley squad of Ben Torda, Conor Donahue, John Kennealy and Sean MacDonald will be in action.
