Varney nominated to replace Pinkerton as Morse HS principal

Morse High School Assistant Principal Eric Varney has been nominated to take over as principal of the high school from outgoing Principal John Pinkerton.

The school board will consider the nomination at a special school board meeting this Monday at 11:15 a.m.

Varney worked in the district as a science teacher for more than a decade before accepting the position of assistant principal last year. In 2014, Varney was named Sagadahoc teacher of the year.

Varney has an undergraduate degree from Dickinson College and a Masters from Lesley University. He also has a Certificate of Advanced Study from the University of Southern Maine. Varney first joined the district in 2004.

“We’re pleased to nominate him to the board,” said Regional School Unit 1 Superintendent Patrick Manuel. “Eric was a highly respected teacher at Morse High School for, I think, 13 years.”

In the board approves his nomination, his start date in the new position would be Aug. 1.

Pinkerton announced his retirement last fall. This school year is his fifth year as principal.
