Hundreds of people  gathered this morning to watch one of the perennial favorites at the Yarmouth Clam Festival: the clam shucking contest.

Featuring three levels of competition, the contest draws some of the largest crowds at the three-day festival. Those who were not watching were eating clams served fried, steamed and in cake form, washed down by the festival’s signature lime rickeys.

The annual homage to the tasty bivalve continues today with fireworks at 9:15 p.m. and a full slate of activities beginning with flapjack and blueberry pancake breakfasts at 7:10 a.m. Sunday.
