BARCELONA, Spain – The U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team wore the throwback uniforms of the 1992 Dream Team on Sunday. The Americans’ play was much different.

Kevin Durant scored 27 points and the United States held on for a narrow 86-80 victory over Argentina in an exhibition game.

The Americans got off to a hot start but their lead was down to four with 2:50 left after Manu Ginobili’s three-point play. But Durant and Chris Paul hit big 3-pointers as the U.S. won after being pushed for the second time in four exhibition games.

Kobe Bryant had 18 points and LeBron James 15 for the U.S.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Seimone Augustus and Diana Taurasi each scored 16 points to lead the U.S. to an 80-61 win over Turkey in an exhibition game at Istanbul.

It was the final tuneup for the Americans before the Olympics start next weekend. The U.S. will train for two more days in Istanbul before heading to London on Wednesday.

Unlike the first three exhibition games that were routs, the U.S. struggled as Turkey hung tough with the top-ranked team in the world in the first meeting between the countries.

SEVEN YEARS after they were cut from the games, baseball and softball, which were last played at the 2008 Beijing Games, have agreed to merge into a single international federation in a joint bid to return to the Olympics in 2020.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL: Chilly weather and evening matches may force a cover up in beach volleyball — from bikinis to long johns.

“We need it to keep our muscles warm,” Australia’s Tamsin Hinchley said. But, she added, “The regulations are that it’s tight fitting, so if that’s what you’re there for, whatever.”
