CLINTON — A 19-year-old fugitive may have stolen a bicycle and a car to aid in his escape, police say.

Timothy James Ezell, 19, of 15 Diamond Ave., Clinton, is still at large today, nearly two full days after he slipped out of handcuffs and escaped through the rear window of a police cruiser.

Chief Craig Johnson said police recovered a stolen car in Clinton on Wednesday afternoon that had been reported stolen from Winslow the morning after Ezell eluded police from four area agencies. Johnson suspects Ezell may have been involved.

Winslow Detective Gina Henderson wouldn’t say whether Ezell is suspected of stealing the 2003 Chevy Tahoe, which was reported stolen about 8 a.m. on Clinton Avenue. About the same time and place, police also recovered a stolen bicycle that might be related to the stolen vehicle case, Henderson said.

Ezell, who has a lengthy criminal record, was arrested about 7 p.m. Tuesday shortly after a witness reported that Ezell had burglarized a car on Long Avenue, Johnson said. After the arrest, two Clinton police officers took Ezell to the Winslow police station for processing and, while the officers were inside, Ezell escaped by opening a rear window of the 2011 Crown Victoria where he was detained.

Johnson said the window controls in the cruiser were operable at the time of Ezell’s escape. Ezell was handcuffed at the time of the escape but slipped out of them.
